“How to Achieve Economic Competitiveness in the Western Balkans?”
Commissioned by the Aspen Institute, the Bureau für Zeitgeschehen (BfZ) realized a scenario workshop (6th and 7th March, 2019) in which the participants discussed the impact of global economic development on South and Southeast Europe. With this workshop the BfZ is deepening its previous cooperation with the Aspen Institute in its Southeast Europe Policy Program.
Focusing on the question “How to Achieve Economic Competitiveness in the Western Balkans by 2030?” the participants – among them Helge Tolksdorf (Head of Division EU-Enlargement, South East Europe and Turkey/ Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy), Hendrik Bosshammer (Project Manager for the “South East Europe Competitiveness Outlook”/ OECD) as well as economic experts from the Western Balkans and Germany – analysed trends and drivers of global economic development. Based on these findings the participants developed the future path towards a normative best-case scenario to increase the economic competitiveness of the Western Balkan region until 2030.
