Publication of the DIW Case Study Report on the Future of the Global Energy System
Within the project “SET-Nav – Navigating the Roadmap for Clean, Secure and Efficient Energy Innovation“, the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) examined future framework conditions for the development of European energy markets and energy technology. The recently published case study report “Scenarios of the Global Fossil Fuel Markets” summarizes the results and presents the scenarios that were developed within the framework of the expert workshop “From ‘Known Unknowns’ to ‘Unknown Unknowns’: Uncovering Critical Uncertainties for the World Energy Future” (November 2016) conducted by the Bureau für Zeitgeschehen (BfZ).
The scenarios form a spectrum of plausible future perspectives on energy needs and sources of energy production up to the year 2050. In addition to the potential opportunities and risks, the scenarios also consider the effects of geopolitical shifts on the market price of fossil fuels and the key factors that determine the success of a decarbonization policy.
The SET-Nav project, which was launched in April 2016, is funded by the EU Programme “Horizon 2020“.
