German Foreign Office

Nigeria in 2030

Development of strategically robust options for action for the German government's cooperation.

By 2050, Nigeria will have the third largest population in the world; already today, the country between the Sahel and the Lake Chad region is Africa’s largest economy. How the country, marked by numerous conflicts, develops politically, economically, technologically, security-wise, and ecologically will have profound effects far beyond West Africa. How German foreign policy can prepare for these possible developments was the subject of a strategic foresight process in which the Bureau fuer Zeitgeschehen (BfZ) accompanied the Federal Foreign Office.
